I remember sitting on my mother’s bed watching her dress for a Saturday evening out with my Father. It was the time when you put effort into dressing for the evening. When women wore evening dresses and men wore suits with a tie. When did our society become so lazy and casual about everything?
Jeans in church, polo shirts for business, Tommy Bahama shirt for dinner. Ladies, I’m really over the jeans with a pretty top and heels, as dressing for a night out on the town. Didn’t we leave that behind a few years ago? Everyone wants to take the easy way out because they want to be comfortable. We have better fabrics these days, so find something with lycra in it and you’ll be fine.
A few years ago, I watched an old movie from the 60’s. The fashions inspired me, for both men and women.
The movie was “Pillow Talk” starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson. The wardrobe was impeccable. I would wear every outfit Doris Day wore in this pic. Classic elegance. Watch it and learn how the details in their dressing goes above and beyond the expectations of today.
It is time to return to chic, glamorous, elegant dressing. Fully understand, what you wear shows the world how much respect you have for yourself and the people you are with.
It is a shame that we, in the year 2010, so sophisticated technologically, have slid so slovenly backwards in our outward sophisticated appearance.
Let us take back looking like we stand for something. Be the absolute best we can be!
